Carbon sink potential of multistrata agroforestry systems at Atlantic Rain Forest PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira

Carbon storage of agroforestry systems, regenerated areas, conventional agriculture and pasture was evaluated at Alto Ribeira Valley region, São Paulo State, Brazil, in different compartments of Land-use systems (LUS). In soil, classified as Entisols and Inceptisols, we found similarities among all LUS, dued to their low contents of organic carbon, and similar values of bulk density. The total carbon stocked on land-use systems, greater amounts were determined on regenerated areas (115.78 Mg ha-1), followed by agroforestry systems (75.38 Mg ha-1), agriculture (47.07 Mg ha-1), and pasture (36.01 Mg ha-1). Identificar áreas ecológicas similares quanto ao clima, solos e vegetação apresenta inúmeras utilidades potenciais, desde o planejamento do uso e ocupação da terra, incluindo a produção agrossilvipastoril, até a conservação dos ecossistemas naturais. O objetivo deste trabalho foi o de realizar um zoneamento climático para o Estado do Paraná, assistido por análise estatística e com base em compartimentos geomorfológicos para delimitação das unidades geoclimáticas. Cerambycidae associados a Ocotea puberula PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira

A busca por informações sobre as espécies de cerambicídeos associadas à Ocotea puberula (Rich.) Nees (Lauraceae) em galhos cortados por Oncideres cervina Thomson, 1868 (Cerambycidae: Coleoptera), motivou o presente estudo. De 49 galhos cortados do hospedeiro na região central do estado do Rio Grande do Sul, determinou-se a emergência de cerambicídeos com avaliações bissemanais. Changes in chemical characteristics of a Litholic Humic Neosol grown with Pinus taeda, promoted by the application of cellulosic residue PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira

The aim of this work was to evaluate, in vase, the effect of cellulosic residue in soil and chemical characteristics of effluents resulting from that application in Litholic Humic Neosol layers collected in the 0 to 10 and 10 cm to 30 cm. Doses of sludge, equivalent to 0, 10, 20, 40 and 80 Mg ha-1 were implanted in a randomized design. Aliquots corresponding to doses of sludge, collected on the treatment were mixed to the soil layer of 0 to 10 cm and placed in vessels after the completion of the soil layer from 10 cm to 30 cm. Characterization of briquettes produced with agroforestry residues PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira

The objective of the present was to characterize the quality of briquettes produced with fines of vegetable coal and bamboo residues, under different formulations. Specific gravity density, bulk density mass, moisture content and speed or rate of thermic degradation were evaluated. Compressive strength and rotation test were applied to the briquettes. Superior and inferior calorific values from briquettes were estimate by adjusted equations. Briquettes produced with the highest percentages of vegetable coal fines presented higher specific gravity, bulk density, ash content and fixed carbon. Characterization of Geometridae family (Insecta: Lepidoptera) associated with different forest fragments in Cotriguaçu, Mato Grosso State, Brazil PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira

The objective of this study was to collect, identify and carry out a faunistic characterization of Geometridae family in Cotriguaçu county, Mato Grosso State, Brazil in different forest fragments. The sampled sites were: Tectona grandis plantation; mixed stand formed by Ficus spp., Astronium sp., Copaia Jacaranda, Syzygium jambolanum and Aspidosperma sp., initial forest regeneration, riparian forest and native forest. Characterization of Mischief of Gryllus sp. in Plants of Eucalyptus, in Laboratory PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira

Damages caused by Gryllus sp. in young seedlings of Eucalyptus grandis were analysed. Threeexperimental groups were tested: Group 1 with 7 days-old and stem diameter of 2.5 mm seedlings; Group 2with 49 days-old and 3.33 mm diameter seedlings; and Group 3 with 80 day-old and diameter of 5.75 mm. Eachgroup consisted of 12 plants isolated in a cage with a couple of crickets for 15 days. The following daily evaluationswere made: absence of damage; superficial signs of chewing; deep signs of chewing and stem cuts. Diameter andage influenced the occurrence and intensity of damage.

The objective of this study was to characterize of an unmanaged stand of Araucaria angustifolia and to development of models to quantify the wood potential, aiming to support the development of forest management plans in stands with similar conditions. The need for new products requires the use of local raw material, which is either processed rudimentarily, such as the heart of Cordyline spectabilis Kunth & Bouché, or sometimes not processed at all. The aim of this work was to store the heart of Cordyline spectabilis from the municipality of Campo Largo, state of Parana, Brazil, as canned food and evaluate the nutritional value. The residue obtained from this process was used to make flour. The nutritional composition of both products was determinade. Chemical Control of Anthracnose on Peach Palm Transplants in Orchard PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira

Leaf anthracnose, caused by Colletotrichum loeosporioides, is the most important disease of peach palm plants (Bactris gasipaes var. gasipaes) in nurseries in the Central and Southern Brazil. The objective of this study was to evaluate efficacy of some new formulations of fungicides for controlling anthracnose transplants in orchards. An assay with randomized block design was carried out, with five different fungicides and a control, with four replicates. Each replicated had 10 plants. The fungicides evaluated were: piraclostrobin + epoxiconazole (0,13 + 0,05 g.L-1), tetraconazole (0,1 g.L-1), tebuconazole (0,2 g.L-1 ), chlorotalonil (2 g.L-1) e chlorotalonil + Thiophanate-methyl (1 + 0,4 g.L-1). The use of wastes generated in the pulp and paper industries as an input to agricultural and forestry is an alternative to the disposal problem, and contribute to reducing the cost of agricultural and forestry production. However, for proper and safe use of this waste, it is necessary to know its effects on soil chemical properties. The effect of doses of calcium carbonate, ash forest biomass, lime mud and cellulosic sludge in chemical attributes of a Dystrophic humic Entisol. This work had the objective of investigate the impacts of climate changes with different climate settings on the spatial distribution of Dicksonia sellowiana (Pres.) Hook. The survey was carried out by using spatial distribution modeling and methods in order to reduce the uncertainty of these predictions. The software Openmodeller was used to run the modeling with five spatial distribution algorithms. The modeling included the climate model HadCM3 of green house gases emission for the year 2050 for two CO2 emission scenarios: optimistic (B2) and pessimistic (A2). Clonagem de Cnidoscolus quercifolius por alporquia, utilizando rejeito de vermiculita e diferentes concentrações de AIA PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira

Dotada de grande resistência à seca, Cnidoscolus quercifolius Pohl (faveleira) é uma espécie que pode ser usada como forrageira, medicinal, alimentação humana, biodiesel e para recuperação de áreas degradadas. Entretanto, apresenta dificuldade de enraizamento pela técnica da estaquia e, por isto, foi avaliada a técnica alternativa da alporquia. Os tratamentos foram constituídos por substratos e concentrações de AIA (ácido indolacético). Foi observado um percentual de 46% de enraizamento no rejeito de vermiculita, com ganho significativo de matéria seca radicular. Não houve efeito significativo das doses de AIA, para as variáveis analisadas.

Coleópteros broqueadores de madeira em ambiente natural de Mata Atlântica e em plantio de eucalipto PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira

Objetivou-se neste trabalho fazer um levantamento de broqueadores de madeira das famílias Cerambicydae, Lyctidae, Bostrichidae, Buprestidae e subfamílias Platypodinae e Scolytinae, em ambiente natural na Mata Atlântica e em plantio de eucalipto. Instalou-se entre os meses de abril e outubro, 20 armadilhas modelo Carvalho 47 adaptado, distantes 50 m umas da outras. Estas foram instaladas a 1,3 m do solo e iscadas com etanol (92,8º), sendo cinco por ambiente: fragmento de Mata Atlântica (borda e interior); plantio de eucalipto (borda e interior). Coletou-se um total de 1.797 indivíduos, em coletas semanais matutinas. O talhão de eucalipto apresentou maior número de indivíduos em ambos ambientes analisados (992 indivíduos).
